AAAE 2020 Scholarship Application



The Association of African American Educators (AAAE) Scholarship Program was established to assist deserving students by offering financial assistance to help meet educational expenses.

Requirements:
  • Scholarship candidates must be graduating high school seniors with written proof of acceptance at an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Scholarship candidates must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 to be considered for this scholarship.
The following information must be completed and returned to AAAE.
  1. Scholarship Application
  2. Personal Statement
  3. OFFICIAL transcript
  4. Test scores (SAT and/or ACT)
  5. Any additional supporting essays required for particular scholarships
  6. Two Letters of Recommendation (dated this current school year)
  7. Wallet size photo (will not be returned)

Scholarship Descriptions and Information:


GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: For African American students- awarded on the basis of academic achievement, college potential & economic needs.


GEORGE WALKER SMITH SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: For an African American student who will be attending a historically Black college or university (HBCU).


DOROTHY SMITH SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: For an African American student who aspires to be a teacher.


DR. ASA G. HILLIARD, III MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: In memory of Dr. Hilliard, educator and community leader. The African American student who applies for this scholarship must submit an essay (3-5 typed pages)discussing aspects of Dr. Hilliard’s life and work that have directly impacted his/her life.


WALTER KUDUMU MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: In memory of Walter Kudumu, a strong advocate for parent involvement in education. The African American student who applies for this scholarship must submit an essay (2 pages typed) discussing the life and work of Mr. Kudumu in the San Diego community.


HONORABLE NAPOLEON JONES AWARD: For an African American student graduating from a SD County High School, planning to enter the field of law. Must have a 3.0+ GPA with a strong record of responsible citizenship, documented in 1 recommendation letter.


DAVID & MIILDRED NASH “MUDDY WATER/HOLLOW LOG”: For an African American student whose parent(s) or guardian has played an extraordinary role in their academic success. Must submit an essay (1 typed page) explaining their parent(s) extraordinary role and what this support has meant to their success.

NATIONAL SORORITY OF PHI DELTA KAPPA, DELTA UPSILON CHAPTER: For an African American student who will pursue a career in the field of education. Must submit an essay (1 -2 typed pages) discussing how you plan to use your education to benefit society.
